The Father Revealed
It is possible to derive any number of different images of God from within the pages of Scripture. For example 1 John 4:16 states emphatically, “God is love.” If our research into the nature of God were to stop and end there…then, God is primarily loving. On the other hand, if we began our research into God’s character in Isaiah 34:2 we would read, “The Lord is angry with all nations; his wrath is on all their armies. He will totally destroy them…” If this is where we start and end, well…we walk away with a much different view of God.
So how can we possibly hope to gain an accurate understanding of our Heavenly Father? Where does one start in such an important and intangible quest? Thankfully, Scripture itself directs us to that place. Colossians 1:15 states: “The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.” And then in verse 19: “For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him.” We need to pay attention to how God is described throughout all of Scripture, but our starting point is Jesus. Jesus reveals God the Father in and through himself, but also in his unique relationship with God as his Father. And as those are in Christ, we get to participate in this intimate, loving relationship with God as our Father.
What do we discover about God the Father through his relationship with Jesus as a boy revealed in the story of 12 year-old Jesus at the temple in Luke 2? What do Jesus’ words reveal about the Father in his Sermon on the Mount? And what does Jesus’ cleansing the temple suggest about his Heavenly Father? These are just some of the questions we’ll unpack together all in the hopes of growing deeper in our understanding of and intimacy with our Heavenly Father.
We sincerely hope you will join us on Sunday mornings beginning THIS WEEK to explore The Father Revealed through Jesus.

Sanctuary is Hiring!
We need someone to setup and tear-down our equipment every other Sunday. One of the realities of being a portable church is that we have a few things that need to be moved and setup, then returned every Sunday. Setup starts at 7am on Sundays and usually finishes between 12:30 and 1pm. We pay $13/hour (including the hour you’re in worship!). Interested or know someone who is? Email Mark Mohrlang. |
