Every week while you are listening to a sermon, our kids and their leaders are off singing and dancing, playing instruments, hearing stories, playing games, eating snacks, and making works of art. I know, you’re jealous. Now, I’m not going to pretend that preparing for and keeping twelve 2-4 year olds’ attention for 50 minutes is easy. It is hard. They want to wrestle, they want more snack, they want their mom, but they also want to know. They want to know where Jesus is. If he rose from the dead, where is he now? They want to know why he had to die. If Jesus is alive again, does that mean Grandma will be alive again? They want to know why the disciples followed Jesus. Are they like the pirates who follow Captain Hook?
I am challenged in my faith every time I have to explain ‘why’ and just hope that my answers are the beginning of something. I encourage each of you to consider spending some time in Sunday School, whether spreading glue or singing a song, as our kids’ faith is deepened and so is yours.
