Tim Soerens – Co-founder of Parish Collective

In early April the The New Parish was released by InterVarsity Press. I’ve been really grateful for the response so far. It was IVP’s best seller for a few months, is in its 3rd printing and even beat the Pope’s new book for a few days as the #1 book in amazon kindle for general religion! It’s been quite a ride.

The Inhabit Conference was incredible this year, we sold out again with nearly 400 leaders converging around this year’s theme of “rooting and linking”. I was really happy with how it went on just about every level. Relationally, financially, missionally, it felt like our best year yet. I was especially grateful that CRC Home Missions, as well as World Renew  were both sponsors this year.

Since Inhabit, Dwight, Paul, and I have been hitting the road pretty hard. We spent two weeks doing events down the west coast from Vancouver, BC to San Diego. I can’t remember how many events we did, but were doing at least one event every day for 2 full weeks.

After about a week home we did a 10 day trip, this time with Forge Canada through Vancouver. On both of these tours fellow CRC church planter and musician Sean Hall joined us to play music and share some of his stories. It was such a joy to be together.

Perhaps the biggest news though, is that Cote and Lukas and I moved to South Park in August. It’s a longer story, but we have felt a deepening sense that South Park is a neighborhood where we could sink our roots deeply. There are many reasons for the move, but one crucial one to report is that we will be joining a new faith community.

Ever since leaving South Lake Union, I’ve longed to be a part of a church plant. But, because of Parish Collective responsibilities, and because I didn’t want to be a solo pastor, that didn’t materialize in Wallingford. There is a great team that’s already begun.

Jorge Tovar is one of the key leaders and he’s both been working with Ben Katt for a year or two, and just completed the “Leadership in the New Parish” cohort (oh yeah, cohort two just finished it was great). I’m prayerfully hoping this new church community might find a partnership with the CRC at some level.

For prayer:

While it’s a unique season, I’ve been on the road a lot. I’m getting tired both physically and mentally, but more importantly really missing my family. Please pray for stamina, and for Cote and Lukas who have been such an incredible support.

For the South Park house and church plant.

Thanks friends, I wish I was with you there in person.

Grace and Peace,

Tim Soerens
