Hymn of the Month

Hymns share a lot in common with superfoods: both are jam-packed with the good stuff, but, like spinach, hymns can seem unappealing to kids. Maybe they are both acquired tastes. A few of us Children’s Ministry-minded folks came up with the idea of “Hymn of the Month” to help our kids grow an appetite and appreciation for these great songs of the faith.  This is how it works: The selected hymn is sung in the service at least twice during the month so the kids have more exposure to it. The Preschool-1st graders sing the hymn again when they arrive at Sunday School each week, along with a kid-friendly discussion of the meaning. Each family was given a CD with the songs on it, or it’s available from our church’s website: https://www.sanctuarycrc.org/kidsmusic/.  Look around on a Sunday and see if you can spot some of the kids singing along!
Upcoming Events
Marriage Study
Growing Together in Christ is a 6 week Bible study from Sep 6 – October 11th, meeting Tuesday nights @ the church office from 6 – 7:30pm.  The study will be focused on spiritual growth as a couple and how it is that we help our spouses grow spiritually as individuals.  The book is $10, childcare is provided.  Email Bob Jackson (denbob1@comcast.net) for more information.
Community Groups
Joining a community group is a great way to get connected at Sanctuary. Sign up HERE or on the back of the communication card Sunday morning! Community groups will be on break starting the week of September 5th and resuming the week of October 2nd.
Monday group (Greenlake), 615-745pm Email the leader
Wednesday group (N. Greenwood), 6-730pm Email the leader
Thursday group (Lake City Way), 630-745pm (soup on at 6) Email the leader
Every other Sunday: Women’s small group, 6pm in member homes

Opportunities to Serve
Help keep us on the same page!

We need a few folks who can help run the slideshow on Sunday morning (projecting our song lyrics, scripture, prayers, etc.).  It is both a crucial job to helping keep us on the same page (literally) in worship, and a relatively simple job (you push the arrow key).  Would you be willing to do this once a month?  Contact Mark!
Community Dinners in August
Join your Greenwood neighbors for dinneron Thursday evenings in August.  Urban Hands hosts weekly dinners at Greenwood Square (85th & Greenwood – entrance by the Windermere building), and Sanctuary is helping set up (4pm), serve (5pm), tear down (6:15-6:45), and (of course) eat.  We need volunteers in all areas, but chiefly our desire is to bring Christ’s love to that person or two you may encounter.  Email Joey DeYoung with your availability to help.
