A Note from Mark Mohrlang:
This coming Sunday, I am excited and grateful to be ordained as a Minister of the Word at Sanctuary. It is the culmination of a long process involving Seminary (shout out to Fuller NW), mentoring and care from other pastors, learning, prayer, practice, growth, and -yes, passing some tests and exams. But I want to be clear that though this is a holy calling, it is not a holier calling. One of the things that delights me about this congregation is the way that so many of you understand your role and call as a royal priesthood. You may not use that phrase, specifically, to describe yourself… but it is what you are. Peter writes about it in his first letter, and one of the driving ideas behind the reformation was the priesthood of all believers. So while I do have some specific tasks and work that makes my week look a bit different than some of yours, one of the things I believe God has called me to do is celebrate the ways you are God’s priests and chosen people at Amazon, Reid Middleton, SPU, at home with your kids, or when you are setting up the lobby at Taproot for worship on Sundays. So come and celebrate with us on Sunday – I’ll see you there!

Make a Difference for Refugees
Our outreach elder, Laura Watrous, shared in worship a few weeks ago about the Syrian Refugee Crisis and ways to help. One local organization she recommended because of their work not only here in Seattle but also internationally in refugee camps is World Relief.
Sanctuary is considering establishing a partnership with World Relief and we are wondering if you are interested in being involved. Would you please let Summer know if this is something you are interested in learning more about?

Crafting for a Cause!
The Green Bean’s Stitching group is spending the month of October crafting for a cause. We want to use the skills and talents we have to bless our community by making scarves, hats, blankets, slippers, gloves, or other items to be given to our local homeless shelters. We want the joy of our work to bless others in this upcoming winter. If you are a knitter, crocheter, sewer, or other artisan, and would like to participate, please join us on Tuesday evenings (5:30-7pm) at the Green Bean. We’ll spend the month of October making gifts to give to our neighbors. In November, we’ll plan a time to take these gifts to a local non-profit to give out. We would love for any local community crafters to join us in sharing our gifts with our neighbors. If you have questions, please contact Sarah Lewis-Assink at 253.266.3817. |

Worship and Technology
Many worship spaces today are filled with smart phones, screens, lights, live-streaming cameras, sound amplification, and more. How are these new forms of technology impacting the worshipping life of Christian Churches? How should churches wisely use (or avoid) these technologies in their worship services? This fall, Dr. Matthew Kaemingk will be speaking on the topic of worship and technology at the Rewiring: Faith and Technology Conference in Bellevue, WA. Don’t miss it!
November 7th, from 9am to 6pm at 1717 Bellevue Way NE, Bellevue, WA 98004

Blessing Not Burden Campaign: We’ve been told immigrants are a burden, but Scripture, our own experiences, and truths about the economy and our communities teach us immigrants are a blessing. We invite you and your church to participate in the Immigrants are a Blessing Not a Burden campaign. Visit BlessingNotBurden.org and like the campaign page atFacebook.com/BlessingNot Burden to sign, share, wear, and change the conversation about immigrants in the U.S.What Being Pro-Life Means to Me Series- What does it mean to “foster the well-being of all living things”? It means speaking up against abortion in a way that honors the lives of all involved, certainly. Could it also mean valuing the lives of Syrian refugees? Or convicts? Or victims fo human trafficking? Or Native Americans? Or Palestinian children? What does it mean to hold the label “pro-life” with integrity? Visit dojustice.crcna.org to hear various writers respond to that question.
